MAY 2020 SEASON – OPERARTE –
EXHIBITION AND PERFORMANCES MAY 8 – 17, 2020
The Spring Hill Reservoir
7.30pm Friday, Saturday, Wednesday & 1.30pm Sunday ONLY
Operarte is a marriage of the genius of ARC Living Master Artist, Mr Gordon Hanley, and The Underground Opera Company…and it’s all Gold!
“Operarte” will combine our exceptional live performances with the visual spectacle of Mr Gordon Hanley’s artworks. The Reservoir will house an exhibition of Mr Gordon Hanley’s, photo realistic, Gold Point art works. Yes, these masterpieces are drawn with 24ct Gold! This exhibition will include 20 original artworks that Mr Hanley has created to best represent each individual piece in the evenings programme. Time laps photographs are taken and combined to create a visually moving masterpiece. These moving masterpieces will be projected on the walls of the Reservoir to create a magical backdrop for each performance.
The Exhibition will also be open to the public during the day. More information coming!
Join us this May for our next incredible concerts as we deliver a concert of the finest pieces to fill the Reservoir. In true Underground Opera fashion we will make you LAUGH, CRY and CHEER.
Our world class cast will bring the roof down with incredible arias, duets and ensemble pieces from Opera’s most memorable moments.
There is always a touch of Musical Theatre to break up the languages so you can bring your friends along or organise a night out with friends, colleagues or clients in private sections of the Reservoir.

What they say
I give a toast to the sweat and toil that has gone into transforming these wonderful old settings and also to this unique historical and theatrical experience. May there be many more!- Stage Whispers
Besides bringing a contemporary opera show to Brisbane, The Underground Opera Company has restored a historically important colonial structure and created an unusual and aesthetically pleasing performance space in the city.- Scenestr
Opera in the Reservoir” is a wonderful concept not just for its repurposing of the century-old structure, which once supplied Brisbane with water, but in its encouragement of Brisbane-ites to become cultural tourists in their own town.- Blue Curtains Brisbane
The Spring Hill Reservoir
The Spring Hill Reservoir is located just behind Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, on Wickham Terrace (look for the Old Tower Mill!).
The Spring Hill Reservoir is architecturally astonishing. Six metres underground, the reservoir is divided into 15 sections by headwalls, with each section joined by hand-lain brick archways, which have been standing for 140 years.
The acoustics are sensational, allowing our performers’ voices to resonate throughout the venue, with each audience member enjoying the beautifully stunning sound that is created, no matter where they are seated.
A stage has been built at the centre of four wings and the intimacy of the reservoir breaks down the barriers between the audience and the performers.
Please note: Concerts are suitable for patrons of all ages who are fit and able to descend stairs into the stunning Spring Hill Reservoir performance space.
Parking: Limited street parking is available. For evening shows and weekends, patrons can take advantage of a $10 flat rate when entering Wilsons Car Park after 6.30pm and leaving no later than 6.30am (225 Wickham Terrace, with entry to car park via Bartley Street).
