What they say
I give a toast to the sweat and toil that has gone into transforming these wonderful old settings and also to this unique historical and theatrical experience. May there be many more!- Stage Whispers
Besides bringing a contemporary opera show to Brisbane, The Underground Opera Company has restored a historically important colonial structure and created an unusual and aesthetically pleasing performance space in the city.- Scenestr
Opera in the Reservoir” is a wonderful concept not just for its repurposing of the century-old structure, which once supplied Brisbane with water, but in its encouragement of Brisbane-ites to become cultural tourists in their own town.- Blue Curtains Brisbane
Covers for Carols in the Reservoir are Heidi Enchelmaier, Julia McRae, Doug McRae and Mattias Lower.
The Spring Hill Reservoir
The Spring Hill Reservoir is located just behind Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, on Wickham Terrace (look for the Old Tower Mill!).
The Spring Hill Reservoir is architecturally astonishing. Six metres underground, the reservoir is divided into 15 sections by headwalls, with each section joined by hand-lain brick archways, which have been standing for 140 years.
The acoustics are sensational, allowing our performers’ voices to resonate throughout the venue, with each audience member enjoying the beautifully stunning sound that is created, no matter where they are seated.
A stage has been built at the centre of four wings and the intimacy of the reservoir breaks down the barriers between the audience and the performers.
Please note: Concerts are suitable for patrons of all ages who are fit and able to descend stairs into the stunning Spring Hill Reservoir performance space.
