Sam Johnson

Sam JohnsonSamuel Johnson is currently enrolled in the bachelor of Music degree at the Qld Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University where he is a student of voice. Since commencing his studies he has performed in numerous operatic projects.

Sam is also a member of the Early Music Ensemble and in 2007 performed two minor principle roles in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo for the Brisbane Music Festival. In the Val Machin Opera scenes, held annually at the Conservatorium, Sam has in recent years performed two major roles, his first being Styx in Orfeus in the Underworld by Offenbach and last year, the role of Taddeo in an excerpt from Pagliacci by Leoncavallo. His most recent performance has been the role of Peter Quince in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, which is was staged by the Queensland Conservatorium Opera School in 2008. Sam has not only been involved in operatic projects over the years, he has also been involved with Company and School musicals. Samuel has performed the role of Joseph in Joseph and his Technicolor dream coat, as well as The Wiz in 'The Wiz', and he has also performed in Funny Valentine, the Boyfriend and has also worked on a professional show of Jekyll and Hyde.

Samuel has performed the Baritone role in the Faure Requiem on the Sunshine Coast as well as other Christmas works with Adrian King and the Noosa Chorale.

Last year, Samuel has performed the 'Father' in Hansel and Gretel in the Conservatoriums Val Machin Opera scenes. Samuel also performed the title role in Handel's Saul, in the conservatoriums 2009 major production conducted by Stephen Moore.

Also last year, Samuel performed in numerous solo works around Brisbane, Ranging in works from Gilbert and Sullivan to Mozart. He also sang at numerous Christmas concerts, including the Caloundra Christmas Carols, and performed the Baritone role in Handels Messiah in Brisbane.

This year, Samuel has performed in a number of variety concerts on the Sunshine Coast, and also Sang the National Anthem at this years Australia day which was featured on Sky News.
