Sofie Haig-Smith

Regis DanillonBorn in 1988, Sofie was educated in Hong Kong and Brisbane. She is currently a bachelor of music student at the University of Queensland, studying under the guidance of Joseph Ward OBE.

Sofie was a featured soloist of the Imogen Children’s Choir, led by Laurie Gaffney from 2000 to 2005. The Imogen Children’s Choir, established in 1987, conducts a busy performance schedule, giving scores of concerts, producing commercial CDs, recording programs and sound tracks for
film and television. During her time with Imogen, she performed with such performing artists as Aled Jones during his Australian tour. She also took part in Opera Queensland
productions such as The Damnation of Faust. Other featured appearances include the 2004 Spirit of Christmas, The St. Stephen’s Series, the Third Annual Choral Spectacular, Surf Symphony starring Lee Kernaghan and Grace Knight, An Afternoon at the Ospedale: a programme of works by Antonio Vivaldi, Prompraise and Queensland Sings – A Centenary Celebration. Many of these performances were broadcast on 4MBS.

Soffie has featured on many CDs including Sayonara Brisbane and has been a soloist in recordings for radio advertisements. She was also a featured soloist at the 15th Australian International Music Festival held at the Sydney Opera House as well as Concerts at Twilight with the Queensland Youth Orchestra.

Sofie has given many recitals including numerous lunchtime concerts at the University of Queensland, as well as some eclectic performances in the concert series Jazz Café.

This year Sofie was awarded second place in the Redlands Eisteddfod vocal aria competition and first place in the own choice section.
